Over 150 people attended Vita Education Services’ “Power of Moms” Family Literacy graduation and International Festival on June 5, at FDR Middle School in Bristol. The event was a joint year-end celebration of Vita’s Family Literacy programs at FDR Middle School and Bensalem Head Start. The Power of Moms’ theme is in recognition of the research findings that “a mother’s literacy level is the greatest predictor of a child’s success in school.”
The program included the graduation of five Family Literacy students, speeches by four students, the presentation of attendance and achievement certificates, and an “around the world feast” prepared by the students.
Family Literacy is a year round program to assist English as a Second Language parents in gaining the literacy and parenting skills they need to become full partners in the educational development of their young children through family-centered education programming.
